The United States Secret Service has confirmed that agents were involved in some type of armed altercation near the White House Friday afternoon.
According to multiple reports, an armed man was shot by Secret Service at the checkpoint west of the White House. “The suspect is in critical condition and in law enforcement custody,” according to reports. The incident prompted a lockdown at the White House, which has now been lifted.
“Police officials said the man approached a security gate on West Executive Drive, and was shot shortly after 2 p.m. The man was told to drop the gun and refused, according to two law enforcement officials,” stated one writer..
At no time was the President, First Family or members of the White House staff in danger.
