Disney’s 2013 box office release, Frozen, proved to be one of the franchise’s greatest hits, racking up nearly $1.3 BILLION worldwide in little more than two years time.

In addition to swelling the coffers of Walt Disney Pictures, the animated movie also became a generation defining film, leading millions of young girls across the world to sing the tune, “Let it goooo…”

As production plans are currently underway for a sequel to the instant classic, the internet is overran with rumors that Frozen 2 will feature a same-sex relationship for starring character Elsa.

Entertainment Weekly recently reported that “A new Twitter campaign calling on Frozen producers to make Elsa a lesbian in the upcoming sequel has gone viral.”

One Twitter user wrote, “Love is an open door. That door should be open to everyone, not just straight people. #GiveElsaAGirlfriend.”  Another agreed, “#GiveElsaAGirlfriend positive queer role model are needed from a young age; early exposure leads to better understanding/acceptance.”

However It’s not just social media users who are talking about the revolutionary concept.

Idina Menzel, the voice of Elsa, recently spoke with ET regarding the notion of making her character gay in the film.  “I think it’s great,” stated the actress, adding, “Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out.”

But not everyone agrees with making the lead character a homosexual.

One mother commented, “My kids love frozen and I really don’t feel like explaining to them why Elsa has a girlfriend.”

Another parent wrote, “Children shouldn’t even be concerned with any relationships in kid movies… I don’t think this should be forced in a place where it wasn’t meant to be in the first place,” adding, “It almost feels like, to me, it is more to show adults that Disney could be diverse.”
