Residents in Smyth County, Virginia, will have a new store to shop at in the coming weeks, as locals Eric and Miranda McClure are set to open the Overstock Mercantile in the opening days of April.

The store, which will be located in Chilhowie (near the BB&T and high school), will sell overstocked merchandise originally intended for major retailers at discounted prices between 40-60% off.

Local shoppers wishing to take advantage of the many deals do not have to wait until April, however, as the store has launched a website showcasing a fraction of the many items the bricks & mortar store will offer.  The website address is www.overstockmercantile.com.

“All of our products are currently for pickup. We will contact the buyers via email to arrange pickup until our store is open,” said Eric McClure.

In the online store’s first three hours of being opened, McClure said he was pleasantly surprised to see the level of local interest — the store sold out of both of their 24V Disney Princess Carriages.

“The thing that excites me most about this store is that it will provide high-quality items to our community at 40-60% off the prices Smyth County residents are currently paying for these same products,” said McClure in a statement to Appalachian Magazine.

McClure, who is a graduate of Chilhowie High School and Emory & Henry College, is best known for having enjoyed a NASCAR racing career that dates back to 2003.

“When it became evident God was changing the direction in our lives, we anxiously wondered what was next… God has since opened another door: Miranda & I have started a business, more specifically, an extreme discount retail business,” stated the former NASCAR driver on Facebook yesterday.

“We will be putting a store in Chilhowie.  We will be acquiring overstocked, returned & liquidation items from retailers, such as Walmart (and others) and offering them for 40-60% off of retail price…  We hope to be in our location in town within the next month.”

Local residents are encouraged to follow the store’s Facebook page (Facebook.com/OverstockMercantile) as the store’s founders say the inventory will constantly be changing.

Presently, the online store is offering furniture, bicycles & riding toys, and swimming pools, slip-n-slides, and dozens of other items with additional products arriving daily.
