According to Appalachian Electric Power, approximately 651 AEP customers in Mingo County, West Virginia, are without electricity.
The power outages come on the heels of widespread rains and intense thunderstorms — Shortly after noon on Friday, the National Weather Service in Charleston issued a Flash Flood Warning for portions of Southeastern Mingo County; however, that warning has since been cancelled and a post made by Mingo County Emergency Management stated, “The heavy rain has ended. Flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat. Please continue to heed any remaining road closures.”
According to AEP outage maps, the majority of communities affected include Delbarton, Ragland, Varney, Red Jacket and Newtown, though portions of Matewan and other areas may be suffering other outages.
Currently, AEP is assessing the condition and have not yet provided an update as to when power will be restored.
