Playboy magazine has confirmed that founder Hugh Hefner has died at the age of 91.
At 11:14 p.m., Playboy released a tweet stating, “American Icon and Playboy Founder, Hugh M. Hefner passed away today. He was 91. #RIPHef”
Hefner was an American men’s lifestyle magazine publisher, businessman, and ultimate playboy. A native of Chicago, Illinois, and a former journalist for Esquire, he was best known for being the founder and chief creative officer of Playboy Enterprises.
A multi-millionaire, his net worth at the time of his death was over $43 million due to his success as the founder of Playboy magazine. Hefner was also a political activist and philanthropist active in several causes and public issues. He was a World War II veteran.
The circumstances surrounding Hefner’s death are not known at this time.
