Update: At 9:30 am Sunday, WVDOT officials confirmed that the rockslide had been cleared and that Interstate 79 is now operating without incident.
Original Article: A t 9:15 p.m. Saturday, the West Virginia Department of Transportation issued a warning to motorists, advising that a rock slide has occurred on the southbound side of Interstate 79 at mile marker 55.0.
“Be prepared to stop, use caution when traveling through this area,” warns a WVDOT official.
Mile marker 55 is located just south of Sutton, West Virginia, and is roughly one mile south of the intersection with US Route 19.
WVDOT has not at this time provided any information regarding the expected duration of this incident.
