Update: As of 10:03 a.m., the number of customers without electricity has been reduced to 5,030.  AEP estimates the remaining customers in the area will have service restored by 12:30 p.m.

More than 10,000 AEP customers from the Ohio River to Kenna, West Virginia, are presently without power, following what some as seeing “a big flash about 6 a.m.” then the power went off.

Appalachian Power is reporting that most affected areas should see power restored by around noon on Wednesday.

AEP’s website states the cause for the outage is “Transmission Information Needed.”

Communities affected by the outage include: Ravenswood, Silverton, Millwood, Cottageville, Evans, Sandyville, Fairplain, Rock Castle and Statts Mills.
