Friday morning, Wythe County Parks & Recreation officials announced a free fitness and health education program designed at aiding county residents in leading healthier and longer lives.
Dubbed, “Shape Up Wythe Sheffey”, the program will be offered to Wythe and Bland residents 18-years-old or older.
The free wellness program will meet three nights a week for a total of eight weeks at Sheffey Community Gym on the property of the Sheffey Elementary School, beginning on March 19. Participants in this program will have two evenings of fitness and exercise with a qualified instructor, while a third evening will be dedicated to health education from various healthcare professionals. Participants will also be able to have a free health screening and consultation from the Mt. Rogers District Health Department.
Funding for the program is made possible thank to a grant secured by the county last year from the Wythe-Bland Foundation.
Kevin Williams, Director of Wythe County Parks and Recreation, stated, “The foundation and the recreation department believes that providing such a program to the community near and around Sheffey will improve the overall health consciousness of participants. We are excited to have such a program starting soon with a second session planned in September.”
County officials say that though the program is free, space is limited and registration ends Friday, March 2, 2018. To register please contact Kevin Williams, Director of Wythe County Parks and Recreation, at 276-223-4519, or email: email@example.com
