WYTHEVILLE, Va. – The Wythe County Board of Supervisors and Wytheville Town Council recently reached an agreement on the future of Wytheville Fire Rescue. The Wythe County Rescue Squad will be dissolved and Wytheville Fire Rescue, which will be managed by the town, will be assuming all equipment, personal property, accounts receivable, and financial obligations of the Wythe County Rescue Squad. In addition, Wythe County will continue to provide financial support for Wytheville Fire and Rescue.
Both entities felt that it is in the best interest of our residents to move forward and come together with this plan. Wytheville Fire Rescue will be providing emergency services coverage to the same area currently covered by Wythe County Rescue Squad.
While the Wythe County Rescue Squad is an independent 501(c)(3) organization managed by its own Board of Directors, the Wythe County Board of Supervisors has annually budgeted funds to assist with operational costs at this agency, including fuel expenses, supplies, etc. In addition, Wythe County owns and insures the ambulances for the Wythe County Rescue Squad.
The Wythe County Board of Supervisors will be giving the two newest ambulances in service at Wythe County Rescue Squad to Wytheville Fire Rescue. In addition, they will also be conveying an antique ambulance, which is representative of the history of Wythe County Rescue Squad.
The Wythe County Board of Supervisors wishes to express its gratitude for the many years of service and volunteer hours provided by the Wythe County Rescue Squad board members and staff. The board is very grateful for their dedication in providing many years of emergency medical services to the residents of Wythe County.
